Meredith Sullivan, a recent University of Pittsburgh graduate (2017), took the time to discuss her background, inspirations, and acting plans as she prepares to move to New York City.

For our readers who don’t know you, where would you say you are in your career at the moment?

My first professional booking came about two years ago, but honestly, I still feel like I’m really just starting out in a lot of ways. I graduated from college in 2017, and over the past year I’ve been doing a lot of local stuff in Baltimore and DC, and one or two projects in NYC. This has been the first time I’ve been able to focus solely on acting now that I’m done with school, so it’s felt like my first serious venture into the professional acting world!

What led you to pursue a career in acting?

I think I’ve always known acting is what I wanted to do with my life. It’s kind of weirdI never felt like I wanted to try any other career path! I studied writing in school as well, but I’ve always had the idea that I would try acting as my first choice. I’m really lucky to be able to go for something that’s been this lifelong dream for me, and especially to have the opportunity to move to New York to pursue it!

Are there any actors/entertainers who inspire you?

Oh, tons! I really love watching performances that make me think about my own process of exploring character. Those are the ones that really inspire me. I just finished re-watching the second season of Stranger Things on Netflix, and honestly, every person on that show is incredible, but I was totally blown away by Winona Ryder again. She’s one of my all-time favorite actresses, and in this show, she just totally nails it. It’s so emotional and she makes you feel connected the whole time. That’s something that’s just so amazing and really got me thinking about how I emotionally relate to a character.

Now, you’re about to make the move from Baltimore to New York City to pursue acting. Granted, you’ve already gotten used to living in a new city through your time at the University of Pittsburgh, but what’s going through your head as you get closer and closer to moving?

I’m really just super excited! I’ve been at home for a year now and it’s been really nice. I love living in Baltimore, but it really feels like being in New York is going to kickstart a lot of stuff for me. It’s always nerve-racking to move to a totally new place, and I’m feeling that too, but I’m very psyched to see what it’s gonna be like for me there. I have a lot of hopeful feelings right now, plus I love apartment decorating!

Apart from getting settled in a new city, what are some near-term goals you have?

On a practical side, I’m looking into getting a day job right now, which would definitely help give me some stability. My biggest acting goal at the moment is to get an agent in New York, so I’ve been looking at a lot of talent agencies and updating all my stuff.

With your theatre arts minor, you likely have a background in theatre. Is that the type of work you want to be doing?

I’ve ended up doing a lot more short film and television stuff over the past year, but I don’t really have a preference either way! I would love to do some more theatre stuff now because it’s been a while since I’ve been on stage. But I’ve always enjoyed any kind of acting, even though film and theatre can often feel so different. I think my ideal job would be more film-based, but theatre is always something I want to return to.

Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about you?

It’s not necessarily about me, but I’ve really enjoyed reading about all the other actors showcased on Instagram! I love seeing that people are coming from all over but share the same passion and drive. It makes me feel really good about my decision to pursue acting, and I hope it makes you guys feel the same![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
